December Service for the Spirits of Celestial Bodies and a presentation, Differentiating between Mental Illness and Spiritual Experience, given by Monika Lonely Coyote, a shamanic healer and master's level psychologist. Saturday Dec 5th Columbia, MD. Contact peggysr@verizon.net for directions. Lecture begins at 1 PM. Service begins at 4 PM. We will also have a gift exchange that day.
Differentiating between Mental Illness and Spiritual Experience:
Many different religions value both personal and group gnosis as a way of connecting to the Divine. Developing the skills to interpret gnosis can be difficult, as well as determining what is a “true” visionary experience versus a delusion/hallucination. Religious leaders, mental health providers, clergy, and community centers have difficulty guiding individuals towards appropriate support, especially if there is a question as to the individual’s mental state. On Saturday, December 5th, UToS will be hosting a workshop on these issues entitled, Differentiating between Mental Illness and Spiritual Experience. Monika Lonely Coyote, a shamanic healer located in Baltimore, MD, will give a short background of psychological illnesses, focusing on Axis I & II disorders (from the DSM-IV), and compare those symptoms with the indications of Visionary Spiritual Experiences. Video examples will help participants discuss different confusing scenarios, and guidelines on referring people to appropriate service providers will conclude the lecture. www.healingcoyote.com
